The customer, a successful manufacturing company in Eastern Switzerland, loads heavy parts manually or with a crane.
Manual loading is time-consuming and can be dangerous. In addition, the machine cannot operate without employee intervention. However, the parts are so heavy that no standard solution exists.
The lathe is to be equipped with an automated loading system. The part weights are up to 250kg.
The system should be so easy to use that employees are happy to work with it.
Roth Technik tackled this task with a heavy-duty robot with a payload of 360kg. The workpieces are provided on pallets within the robot cell. An automatic gripper change enables effortless switching between a parallel gripper for shafts and a centric gripper for flange parts. Thanks to the simple user interface, employees also use the robot for very small batch sizes.
The result speaks for itself: Productivity has increased significantly as the lathe can now operate autonomously for several hours without human intervention. Skilled workers have been effectively relieved and can now focus on more valuable tasks. A major win for our customer!
